Manly Dragon Boat Come n Try Events 2008 - June 2008 Over the past two months the Manly Dragons have hosted three come `n try events for new paddlers to have a go at dragon boat paddling.  The first two events were conducted as part of the Brisbane City Council Real Adventure Women (RAW) program.   Over 35 ladies signed up for a two and half hour introductory session on dragon boat paddling held on a Sunday in May and June.  Ranging in ages from 18-60 years plus and with varying levels of fitness and ability these ladies were given full instruction on paddling technique, calls and safety on the water before heading out onto the tranquil waters of the Manly Boat Harbour.    After one hour of paddling most of our ladies were exhausted but still smiling and were happy to retire to the Clubhouse and enjoy a sumptuous morning tea while laughing about their new found skills on the water.
The most recent come `n try event was held on Family Day in June and gave Manly Dragons the opportunity to invite some of the salty sailors and boaties into the dragon boat to find out what all the fuss is about.   Suffice to say that some sailors discovered that it is much harder to paddle in time than it looks!  It was a fun morning for all that participated and after enjoying the BBQ some of the dragon members had the chance to try out the sailing caper in the afternoon's SAG race.   It capped off a great day that saw many families getting out on the water in dragon boats and sail boats alike and having a fun time - isn't that why we all do it?
