Thursday 22nd April, the Australian State Championships.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN !!
For the first time in history, all 6 States and both Territories challenged each other for the title of “Australian Champions”.
15 members from the Manly Dragon Boat Club contributed to the Queensland Teams competing for this title in the categories of Great Grand Dragons (4 Members), Grand Masters (7 Members) and Masters (4 Members).
Needless to say, we can now proudly exhibit all shining shades of bling at our Club's next “show & tell”.
On Friday 23rd April, it was time for the Club Banners to freely fly for Club Championships to commence and continue for the next few days. An impressive list of 47 Clubs from around the Nation, and a total of 1,986 competitors were ready to compete in the 200, 500 and 2000mtr races.
MANLY DBC had a total of 28 participants, together with 3 greatly appreciated team support members (many thanks to Maddie, Chris & John B).
With a team of 28, we entered the categories of `Premier Mixed', `Premier Women' and `Master's Mixed'. One very certain way of hearing comments from the crowd ....“O.M.G. is that Manly lining up again?”
In fact, we became so focused on the task ahead, we actually lined up and competed in a race that we had not registered in. Oh well, what's one more race?
Many thanks to Christine Lonie and Brenda Cumming-Thom from Coolangatta/Mount Warning Dragon Boat Club. Without these two wonderful ladies, we could not have entered the Premier Women's division.
Manly Dragons get fired up..In March 2011, the chilly waters of Lake Burleigh Griffin beckon.
It comes highly recommended.................
